What people say about us…
“We are grateful for Community Can funding for supporting Barking and Dagenham Somali Women’s Association which is charity that works hard to improve the lives of Somali and other BME women and Families, and we are happy with our provider Big Society CIC who understands the nature of our work and the challenges we are facing in terms of funding and resources. Big Society CIC have worked with our trustees, staff and volunteers to build our capacity and improve our governance, business plan, financial strategy and Monitoring and Evaluation frame work.
Big Society team have been brilliant and their support came the right time for us, and it is lifeline to sustain the organisation at this difficult time of austerity.”

“As a small charity working in a deprived area – funding is vital to carry out of work within the Community. As funding becomes harder to obtain – we felt it was time to take a fresh approach to writing bids and an overarching report. We spent time looking for specialist fundraisers and bid writers to help us in our quest. We stumbled upon Big Society Funding and arranged an initial meeting with James and Mark. We were immediately impressed with their approach and enthusiasm to the project – the two trustees that met with the “Guys” were impressed straight away with their ability to understand our requirements.
After conversations – a plethora of emails back and forth – customer involvement surveys – finally we had a finished evaluation report – which was exactly as we wanted – well written – not too much official speak – laid out well and easy to read and follow. This report was used to support bids to funders, and the feedback we have had is positive.
To this end we have been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Fund which will enable us to carry out or work for a further 5 years in and around two of the Northwest’s most deprived council estates. This will benefit in excess of 5,000 residents, by having our organisation working in the community. It’s without doubt that we as an organisation could not have done this without the excellent work by Mark and James from Big Society Funding.
Our organisation is a small charity based around two council estates in the North West – concentrating on helping residents with benefit claims, housing and ASB Issues, and getting back into work. As a small organisation we often rely on the goodwill of the local housing provider and council to help us achieve our aims We are pleased with the work that Mark and James have done for our organisation and look forward to working on future projects with them”.

“Evaluation reports must accompany Lottery grant applications so we asked Big Society Funding to externally evaluate our work. They are the experts at this. Their report led to us being awarded a grant from the Lottery’s Reaching Communities funding programme to expand and continue our vital work.”
Ruth Hiscock, Coordinator, Harrow Women’s Centre
“Things get done when Mark and James are tasked!”
Lauren Keeler, Partnerships Manager, The Prince’s Trust
“Big Society Funding was engaged by Harrow Council to identify the infrastructure support needs of the Voluntary Sector and this work led to the sector being awarded at least two council contracts. I cannot recommend James and Mark highly enough. They are two of the most professional, knowledgeable and hard-working individuals that I have had the pleasure of working with in my long career in Local Government.”
Carol Yarde, Head of Transformation, Harrow Council
“Thank you so much James, without your help there would have been no refurbishment!”
